Severn Valley Samba Band were formed in 2009 as a community Samba band. We are a friendly group that welcomes new members of all ages and abilities to try Rio and African inspired styles of drumming. Instruments are provided, so all you need to bring is your smile and enthusiasm. Children accompanied by an adult please. First session is FREE including refreshments.
It's probably best to contact us or check the Band calendar (opens in a new window) for dates and times of practices, as we'd hate for you to turn up at a venue and for us not to be there.
The band is on a break at the moment, but will be back in 2017. If you are a musician and interested in playing samba, get in touch.
Aims and Objectives
Severn Valley Samba Band is a community Samba band and should remain accessible to all ages and abilities.
Initially set up by Wyre Forest District Council, the band is to become increasingly self-sufficient and run by the members.
Rehearsals/workshops are run at regular timings with performance dates as available.
No band member is obliged to join performances.
The band is not run for profit and any revenue generated (through membership and performance fees) is to be put towards new equipment, hire of rehearsal space and band expenses.
The band will look to increase membership numbers.
In Oct 2012 we were awarded a grant to put on a series of FREE samba workshops by the BBC Performing Arts Fund (www.bbc.co.uk/performingartsfund) . We were really excited about being the only Samba Band to receive this award. Click HERE for details
